CONAPAC: Our Board

Get to know the board of directors behind CONAPAC.

In 1999, the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) volunteered to be the official CONAPAC Adopt-A-School sponsor in the United States, representing us through their 501(c)3 status. The DZS collects tax-deductible funding from all over the world to make our program possible, at no administrative cost to CONAPAC.

A board of directors was then established, and ever since, has been full of passionate and committed volunteers who go above and beyond to give to CONAPAC, and the communities in rural Peru. We invite you to meet these dedicated board members below.

  • Pamela is our board president and has been living and working in Iquitos since 1986.

Previously a science teacher in the United States, her vision brought the Adopt-A-School program to fruition.

As a principal with Explorama and founding member of CONAPAC, she has been with CONAPAC at every step as it has grown and evolved over the years to meet each new challenge.

  • Board Secretary

Nancy lives in North Carolina in the US, but has shared our love for the rainforest and its people since she first visited with students in 1986. As a K-12 teacher, she and her students raised money for donations every year since Adopt-A-School began. She participated in rainforest teacher workshops in their early days and visited Peru with family and friends.

Since retiring, she has been coming to Peru to assist with Adopt-A-School deliveries for the past 12 years.

From 2009 up to the present she has maintained our website. She creates our newsletter posts and other publications.

  • Board Vice President

Cynthia previously worked full-time as our executive director for eight years. Now retired and living in Perth, Western Australia, Cynthia serves on the board in order to transition, support, and maintain CONAPAC's principal programs through her network of CONAPAC donors and friends.

  • Board Trustee

Amner has been with CONAPAC since its beginning, and has been our greatest promoter of the importance of improving rural education and environmental consciousness in the villages.

Born in the community of Tamanco on the Napo River, Amner knows more about the river communities than anyone at CONAPAC. His insight into river life and the relationships he has maintained are invaluable resources for the Adopt-A-School program.

  • Board Trustee

Claire is the Director of Education at the Detroit Zoological Society. She serves as a liaison between CONAPAC and the Detroit Zoo, working with donors from around the world and with dedicated volunteers who support the program in a variety of ways.

Claire, with her background and experience in education, provides assistance with CONAPAC's teacher professional development and community accountability.
