Thanks to you!

The Adopt-A-School program begins with deliveries in the spring and finalizes with evaluations at the end of the school year (March through December). Over that time, residents, students, teachers, and their communities are strengthened by the support our generous donors provide. Thank you, again, for this support throughout 2014 and all the years that CONAPAC has worked to bring conservation and education initiatives to rural Amazon River communities.

Highlights of this year's Adopt-A-School evaluations

We wrapped up our end-of-year evaluations on Friday, November 28th. During this extensive process, 23 people participated--Peruvian and American volunteers and CONAPAC staff. We reviewed teacher and student competency, community leadership and organization, and environmental sensibility of the community residents at large. And we especially focused on environmental and clean water management. All data will be collated and used by the team at CONAPAC to determine which communities remain in the program for another year, which regrettably need to be cut, and which new ones might be added to our group of partner communities. The data also will provide the most up-to-date information for the Peruvian Census Bureau.
Peruvian educators from Iquitos volunteered their time to collect data and process the information for final evaluation and decisions for 2015.
American volunteers also joined this year's team--Claire Lannoye-Hall and Adam Dewey from the Detroit Zoological Society and Ron Rossi from EKOAmazon--another CONAPAC funding partner. See our June 2014 NewsNote for more info about Ron and his organization. Read about Claire's and Adam's experience and meet some of the communities.

And here are a handful of the children we encountered along the way on our 55 village visits. We see such beautiful smiles when kids have the opportunity to grow and develop to their full potential.
We are partnered with Pack for a Purpose to better assist you with a suggested list of donations that you can carry down. If you find yourself traveling to the Amazon rainforest and staying with Explorama Lodges, take a look at their site.

Since June of this year, we've received 120 pounds of donations--school supplies and various items for the library.

CONAPAC has been been providing access to clean water in the Peruvian rainforest since 2008. Our Family Water Project places Sawyer PointONE™ water filtration systems in individual homes in smaller communities where a large water treatment plant is impractical.

A gift of $195 will supply one household. Over 175 families (households) are still waiting to receive their water treatment systems and clean water.
