Providing Clean Water, One Village At A Time

In our larger Adopt-A-School partner communities, we build concrete water treatment plants that can serve 350-400 people per day. The simple four-stage filter systems are assembled in the city by CONAPAC staff and transported by boat to the communities for final construction. We work with a professional concrete tower contractor who has the help of community members during the construction process. Each community contributes to the building of their water plant by purchasing a portion of the components and providing the labor, solidifying their investment in the project.

Village leaders and members of the communities we serve understand the value of clean water for their health. The number of communities who desire their own water plants continues to grow and our donors are responding. We now have community water plants in 30 rainforest villages along the Amazon and Napo Rivers. Construction is in progress on the last of the four to be built this year (in the villages of Juventud Yarina, Timicurillo, Juancho Playa, and Santa Lucia), bringing the total to 31.

Each child receives a water cup with our "clean water equals good health" message.

CONAPAC hosts a "Water Workshop" in each community to provide education that reinforces the merits and responsibilities of producing and consuming clean water, leading to a more successful and sustainable long-term project. CONAPAC also monitors the treatment process, trains operators, and tests the water for one year after construction. The partnerships continue as long as communities stay in the Adopt-A-School Program.

Many thanks to our donors!

"By taking care of the water we work for the good of future generations.
Don't contaminate it!"

To partner with a village and provide this life-giving community project, the investment is $10,000 USD. The cost of our education, testing, and oversight portion is $2000. Many donors give the whole project amount ($12,000), while others help with smaller donations which we bundle together to form one project. Whatever is comfortable for you is of value to CONAPAC and the Amazon residents we serve.

Many thanks to those of you who responded to our August appeal. We have received $13,000 from donors, a big step toward our $50,000 goal for the year.

Breaking news! One of our donor partners, SAGA Charitable Trust, has just committed to funding our first-ever water monitoring program, which will be fully implemented in 2014.
CONAPAC is a Peruvian non-profit organization whose mission is to promote conservation of the rainforest through education of its stewards, the people who live along the Amazon and Napo Rivers. Our centerpiece project is the Adopt-A-School program, which is strengthened by workshops and complemented by service and sustainable projects in river communities.
