Adopt-A-School 2015

Volunteering

Adopt-A-School delivery time will soon be here. We need your help in bringing conservation and education initiatives to the rural Amazon River communities in our program. The Delivery Week #2 volunteer roster is full, but we still need a few more volunteers for Delivery Week #1, April 11-20. If you think you might join us please contact Claire Lannoye-Hall at the Detroit Zoo or fill out the form on the last page of the 2015 Conservation Expedition booklet to enroll. All the details of itinerary, cost, accommodations, and activities are in the booklet.

Funding for 2015

We have a long way to go to fund this year's Adopt-A-School program needs. Please consider adopting a school or schools, sponsoring individual school children, or making a general donation to Adopt-A-School.

Although education is important in Peru, the government is unable to supply the rural schools with educational materials. These communities rarely have textbooks, reading materials, maps, charts, or reference materials for teachers and students. Education is free, but students are required to purchase their own notebooks, rulers, pens, and pencils, which is an almost impossible financial burden for rural families.
The Adopt-A-School Program encourages intercultural awareness and exchanges of friendship and goodwill among Peruvians and visitors from around the world. When you volunteer you have the opportunity to meet the people in our CONAPAC Partner Communities. Program financial supporters receive photos and letters from Peru, providing a personal view into the rich and diverse culture of these rural communities and their children.

AAS Highlights

We are partnered with Pack for a Purpose to better assist you with a suggested list of donations that you can carry down. If you find yourself traveling to the Amazon rainforest and staying with Explorama Lodges, take a look at their site.

Since June of this year, we've received 120 pounds of donations--school supplies and various items for the library.

GIVE THE GIFT OF CLEAN WATER

CONAPAC has been been providing access to clean water in the Peruvian rainforest since 2008. Our Family Water Project places Sawyer PointONE™ water filtration systems in individual homes in smaller communities where a large water treatment plant is impractical.

A gift of $195 will supply one household. Over 175 families (households) are still waiting to receive their water treatment systems and clean water.
