School Named in Honor of Alberto Vela

“Alberto Vela Muñoz”

All Peruvian schools have a school number with the prefix “IE” which means “Institución Educativa” or Educational Institute, but a few also have names. Students returning to their school in the partner community Manati I Zona will be returning to the same school, but it now has a new name: “Alberto Vela Muñoz.” Alberto was deeply dedicated to the work of CONAPAC for 15 years. He lost his battle with COVID-19 in May 2021.
His contributions to our work live on.

The community of Manati I Zona chose to name our school, IE N° 60220, for Profespr ALBERTO VELA MUÑOZ in gratitude for the care he showed to the children of the rural Amazon area and for the hard work he did for the families in riverside communities. With this gesture, we want to honor his memory as an exceptional teacher, excellent human being, and lover of nature.Lira Fajardo Gongora, Manatí school principal.

A ceremony to inaugurate the new school name will be held in the community on March 13, the start of the 2023 school year in Peru.
